Description
* We have received reports that the crude oil tanker VILAMOURA (IMO: 9529293) experienced an explosion whilst in a position approximately 88 nautical miles north west of Benghazi, Libya on 27 June 2025.
* It is reported that the vessel suffered severe structural damage and the engine room sustained water ingress as a result of the explosion. The vessel was successfully stabilized and has been taken under tow towards the Peloponnese peninsular, Greece to enable ship-to-ship transfer of the cargo, as well as inspection, and possibly repairs, of the vessel.
* It is possible that General Average / Salvage and associated Recovery issues may arise as a result of this casualty.
