Description
* We have received reports that bulk carrier MANASOTA (IMO: 9275957) experienced a fire in its engine room whilst navigating the Indian ocean, approximately 332 nautical miles northeast of Mauritius, on 15 January 2025.
* It is reported that the fire was extinguished by the crew by flooding the engine with CO2.
* We understand that a tug has been deployed from Colombo, Sri Lanka to take the vessel under tow to a port of refuge for inspection and repairs.
* It is likely that General Average/Salvage and associated Recovery issues may arise as a result of this casualty.
